Photos

Lantern shows photos from Immich, the self-hosted photo library. It doesn’t take uploads of its own, so the family’s photos stay in one place.

  1. In Immich, make an API key for Lantern under Account Settings → API Keys, with the permissions album.read, asset.read, asset.view, and asset.download, or all of them.
  2. In Lantern, open Settings → Integrations → Immich, enter Immich’s address and the key, and save. Lantern checks them first.
  3. Under Albums to show, choose the albums the family should see.

Lantern copies the chosen albums’ photos, sized for its screens, and checks for changes every 15 minutes. Sync now checks at once. A photo removed from Immich, or from a chosen album, leaves Lantern too.

Turn on Short videos to bring in videos of 30 seconds or less from the chosen albums. They play muted in Photos and in the screensaver.

  • Photos shows every album, newest first, with Recently added at the front. An adult can hide a photo there, and show it again.
  • Home’s photo card plays the recent ones as a slideshow.
  • The screensaver on a wall display shows the albums its settings choose, after the display has been idle a while.

Lantern never changes or deletes anything in Immich.
