The calendar
The calendar is everyone’s week in one place, each person’s events in their colour.
Choose a view from the calendar’s toolbar:
- Week and Day: a time grid, with all-day events above it. By member splits it into a column per person.
- Schedule: a list of what’s coming, day by day.
- Month and Multi-week: the longer view, for school terms and holidays.
The member chips along the top narrow the calendar to the people you choose. The hours the day and week views open on are set in Settings → Household.
Events
Section titled “Events”Choose Add event, or a time on the grid. An event has a title, a time or a whole day, the people it’s for, and the calendar it’s in. A repeating event follows a rule: every week on chosen days, every month, every few days, and so on.
When you change one occurrence of a repeating event, Lantern asks whether you mean this event, this and following events, or all events in the series. Deleting asks the same.
Whose event it is
Section titled “Whose event it is”An event shows in the colours of the people it’s for. Two things can fill that in for you:
- A calendar’s usual members: in Settings → Calendars, a calendar can belong to some members, so its events are theirs unless you choose otherwise.
- Member rules: in Settings → Member rules, words in an event’s title put it under people. “Swimming” can always be the children’s.
Calendars
Section titled “Calendars”- Lantern’s own: add as many as you like in Settings → Calendars, each with a colour.
- Subscribed: Google, Apple, Proton, or any calendar that publishes a link, read every few minutes. Their events can’t be changed in Lantern, but they can be hidden. The guides for Google, Apple, and Proton show where each one keeps its link.
- Holidays: a country’s, and a region’s, added in Settings → Calendars.
- Birthdays: each member’s, from the birthday in their profile.
- Meals and to-dos: the meal plan and dated to-dos can show on the calendar too. Show or hide each in Settings → Calendars.

Countdowns and the weather
Section titled “Countdowns and the weather”Countdowns count the days to a date, the next time an event happens, or a member’s birthday. The nearest shows at the top of the app and on the display.
The weather is off until an admin turns on Show the weather in Settings → Household, with the household’s location. Then the top of the app and the display show today’s, and the week’s forecast shows beside each day and in an event’s details.
