Chores, routines, and rewards

The Chores screen shows today’s chores in a column per person, with anyone’s chores at the end. Check one off and it’s done; check it again to undo it.

Adults and admins choose Add chore. A chore has:

  • A schedule: every day, chosen weekdays, a day of the month, or every few days, from the day it starts.
  • Times, if it’s done more than once a day: feeding the cats at 7:30 and 17:30 is one chore with two times.
  • Who does it: one person; several, who either take turns or each do their own; or nobody picked, so anyone can. Turns rotate by themselves, so the bins go to whoever’s next.
  • Stars: what it earns each time it’s done.
  • Needs an adult’s OK, for a chore an adult should check. A finished one then waits above the columns until an adult approves it, which gives its stars, or sends it back.
  • Show on displays, off for something like medication, kept in the app.
  • If it’s missed: Let it go, or Keep it until done, so a chore missed one day is still owed the next.

All chores lists every chore with its schedule, paused ones included. History shows a week of what was done and missed, for adults and admins.

On a wall display, a child taps their own chore. For anyone’s chore, the display asks who did it.

A routine is a member’s steps in order, done within a time window on chosen days: a morning routine of getting dressed, brushing teeth, and packing a bag. While its window is open, its card in the member’s column shows Start, which opens it a step at a time, full screen, with a picture or emoji for each step. Finishing every step earns the routine’s points.

Make routines under All chores → Routines.

A habit is something done a number of times a day or a week, like reading or practising piano. Its card in the member’s column counts this period’s tries against the target, and shows the streak. Each log earns the habit’s points.

Make habits under All chores → Habits.

Points add up to a member’s balance of stars. On the Points page, adults and admins see each balance and its history, and give a bonus or take points away, with a note.

The Rewards screen lists what stars can buy, each with its cost, and optionally a limit. A member can save for one, which shows their progress under their name. When a child asks for a reward, adults see the request, approve or deny it, and mark it given once it’s handed over. Approving spends the stars.

A household that doesn’t want points turns off Points and rewards in Settings → Household. Chores still work, without stars.

This week shows each member’s week: stars earned and spent, chores done, routines finished, and habit streaks. Page back to earlier weeks from it.
