Lists and to-dos
The grocery list
Section titled “The grocery list”Every household has a Grocery list. Type into the box at its top and press Add: “2 lb chicken thighs” keeps the amount, and anything after a comma is a note, as in “milk, semi-skimmed”. On a wall display, its own keyboard opens, and where the browser can listen on the device, a microphone adds by voice.
Items sort themselves into categories, such as produce, dairy, or cans and jars, so the list reads in the order you walk the shop. Move an item to another category and everything named the same follows it from then on.
Check items off as they go in the trolley. Clear removes the checked ones, and Undo brings them back.
Products
Section titled “Products”Lantern remembers each thing you buy as a product, with its category, its store, and when you last bought it. As you type, it suggests products you’ve had before, and puts back checked items you name again.
Adults and admins manage products on Lists → Products: rename one, change its category, merge two that are the same thing, or delete one.
Stores
Section titled “Stores”On Lists → Stores, add the shops you use and lay each one out: its categories in the order you walk them, with aisle numbers if it has them. Then choose a store at the top of the Grocery list to see only what’s for it, in its order.
An item can be for one store, or any. Always buy here, in an item’s details, makes every one of that product go to that store, on every list.
Other lists
Section titled “Other lists”Make as many lists as you like from Lists: more grocery lists, or Other lists for packing, gifts, or anything else.
To-dos
Section titled “To-dos”To-dos has lists of its own, for jobs rather than shopping. A to-do can have a day and a time, and any number of people. The screen sorts them under Overdue, Today, Tomorrow, the days after, and No date, and the chips at its top show one person’s.
Checking a to-do records who did it. Hold its check, or use Done by… in its menu, to say it was someone else. Dated to-dos show on the calendar too, unless the To-dos calendar is hidden.
Mirroring a list elsewhere
Section titled “Mirroring a list elsewhere”An admin can mirror a list into a list in Home Assistant, Grocy, or Mealie, in Settings → Integrations → List sync. The mirror goes one way: Lantern’s list is the master, and changes made in the other service are overwritten at the next sync. It syncs when the list changes, and every 15 minutes besides.
